This work begins with what women already hold — knowledge, creativity, and collective strength — creating space to reflect, recognise their own agency, and act from it.
OUR MODEL
Kuumba builds women-led systems from what already exists — local resources, land, and collective strength.
Women organise, cultivate, and produce — generating both food and income from the same field, while strengthening their agency and voice to lead.
Through enterprise, peer learning, and community-led investment, they are building local economies that are owned, sustained, and growing — alongside systems of self and collective care that sustain both the work and the women leading it.
Organising (Agency Circles)
Women organise into Agency Circles — where they learn, save, make decisions, and support one another while holding each other accountable.
These circles are the foundation of the work: creating space for learning and reflection, building discipline, strengthening voice, and enabling women to lead and act together.
Production & Enterprise
Women turn local resources into income, food, and enterprise.
From oil-rich, drought-resistant crops to indigenous trees and non-timber forest products, they are building from what already exists.
This is not subsistence — it is the building of lasting local economies, it is the building of lasting local economies, where income expands women’s choices and agency enables them to act.
Collective Care & Investment
As women grow their incomes, they invest back into their communities.
Through shared systems of care and local philanthropy, they support one another, strengthen their households, and invest in the wellbeing of their communities.
This is how communities sustain themselves — from within.
Where the Work Lives
We work across three villages in Buhera District — Dzenga, Mafuruse, and Gwenukwenu.
This is where women are organising, producing, and building — shaping their communities from within.
